Beyond Job Search: What Business Strategy Can Teach Placement Professionals

Monday, August 19
Salon F, 3:45 PM-4:45 PM

The emphasis on placement and job search seems to create more questions for rehabilitation consumers than the process can sometimes answer: "Should I disclose my disability?", "What if they want more than part-time?", and "How will this impact my benefits?" New best practices that focus on securing the offer and then negotiating conditions may add to outcomes in this post-ADAAA and Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program (OFCCP) work world. To succeed in business, act like business.
Presenter: Michael G. Fiore, BSE, MBA, The Sierra Group Inc.

Remaining OFCCP Compliant in times of Shifting Regulations www.recruitdisability.org

Tuesday, August 20
Salon C, 9 AM-10 AM

The existing ADA was amended in 2009 to include more people with disabilities and give greater guidance to organizations. The OFCCP increased enforcement of disable-related discrimination in 2009 by 20%. Additionally, new rules are pending that would set a goal for federal contractors to have 7% of their workforce consist of persons with disabilities. This session will address the problems and the solutions that this changing legislative landscape provides to vocational rehabilitation professionals.
Presenters: Seth Acosta, MS (organizational leadership) and Janet Fiore, President and CEO, Sierra Group Inc.

Janet Fiore Featured Speaker The National Rehabilitation Association 2012 Pre-Conference in Chicago!

National Rehabilitation Association LogoChosen for her ability to speak the languages of vocational rehabilitation leader, practitioner, woman with a disability, and corporate recruiter/consultant, Janet D. Fiore will train other leaders and job placement professionals at the upcoming professional development conference of the country's premier VR association – The National Rehabilitation Association. As past president of NARL (The National Association for Rehabilitation Leaders) and past Ortale Lecturer for the JPD (Job Placement Division) Fiore will share tips and tricks from the world of corporate recruiting. The line between innovation and accommodation is blurring: The new role of assistive technology.

Title: Assistive Technology: Capturing the Ability and Skill within Your Organization
Date:September 16, 2010 - Thursday
Time:11:00AM – 12:15PM EDT

FREE TO JOB SEEKERS INCLUDING VETERANS!

Teleseminar host Janet Fiore, CEO of The Sierra Group, Inc. will cover topics where you will:

  • Learn the four (4) elements that support and allow for creative accommodation solutions
  • Learn how assistive technology interfaces with Human Resources policy, Information Technology and the specialized needs of employees with disabilities
  • Learn about current trends in accommodation solutions utilizing state-of-the-art technologies
  • Better understand how you can be an essential component in the employment of individuals with disabilities through workplace accommodations

Technology is commonplace in today's work setting, with many companies utilizing leading edge technologies to get real-time access to their systems. Indeed, many employers encourage their employees to work with a smart phone or an iPad to enhance their productivity. So why is it that disabled individuals using the same or similar technologies as “assistive technology”, have the highest rate of unemployment? Could it be that the term and workplace benefits of “assistive technology devices” is not really understood by employers?

This teleseminar is intended to highlight what the technology can do, how it fits in to a work environment and the business innovation benefits that await savvy companies when hiring an assistive technology user. The information learned can be essential to ensuring that highly skilled workers with disabilities are fully utilizing those skills and achieving their full work potential.

Janet Fiore, CEO of The Sierra Group, Inc., is a leading national authority on helping people move through the job accommodation process. Janet will facilitate the learning session with guest experts, Vickie Peirano-Thompson, Manager at United Collection Bureau, Inc.
